Youngsters praised at celebration event

3:40pm Wednesday 25th February 2009 ACHIEVING youngsters have been praised for their positive contributions to the town at a series of fun-filled events spearheaded

by Warrington Borough Council. Around 600 teenagers aged from 13 to 19 were invited to attend at least one of two celebratory events, named Inspire after completing work, ranging from caring for a family member to speaking out on issues affecting peers. Thursday saw 300 young people unite at Halo night club for an afternoon of live music played by six up-and-coming young bands, dancing and games to mark their achievements. Those attending the four hour party had the chance to learn street dancing, brave the bucking bronco and swot up sexual health from workers of the charity, Terrence Higgins Trust. Youths had the chance to use their vocals by MCing to the crowds. Julie-Anne Barnes, aged 16, of Bewsey said she was invited to the first event of its kind in the north west because she was a member of Warrington Youth Council (Impact).
