TV talent star Mark Evans gets set for Bodelwyddan abseil attempt

A SINGING star who narrowly missed representing the nation this year is set to delight Denbighshire at a St David&rsquos Day event held in

Bodelwyddan. Mark Evans, who finished third in the BBC talent show Your Country Needs You earlier this month, will entertain audiences at Bodelwyddan Castle on March 1 as part of a number of events held at the historic site to celebrate the Welsh Patron Saint. &ldquoWe&rsquore thrilled to have him here and hoping his performance will be fantastic,&rdquo said Joanne Roberts, marketing and information manager at the castle. &ldquoHe&rsquos done really well representing North Wales and we&rsquore looking forward to seeing him highlight the castle and raise funds for a local charity.&rdquo Mr Evans, who is originally from Llanrhaedr near Denbigh, was pipped to the post in the contest by London lady Jade Ewen, who will perform a song penned by West End legend Andrew Lloyd Webber at this year&rsquos Eurovision contest, held in Moscow in May. The former Ysgol Glan Clwyd pupil will also be joining a number of the St Asaph school&rsquos current students in a charity abseil down the walls of the castle itself, in a bid to raise funds for The Stroke Association. Sandy Williams, regional fundraiser for the charity, said: &ldquoIt&rsquos really good of him to come all the way from London to do it, and clearly it shows that he not only wants to fly the flag for his old school, but also wants to help a locally-organised charity event as well.&rdquo

North Wales Stroke Association are still looking for more willing volunteers to take part in the abseiling event at Bodelwyddan Castle.
