The Huddle 2009: Patriots Qb

The Huddle

Patriots QB Tom Brady, the NFL's MVP in 2007 after throwing a record 50 TD passes, continues to sound optimistic about his recovery after

suffering a season-ending knee injury in the first quarter of New England's Week 1 win over Kansas City last September. "I'm feeling great. I'm feeling really good. Everything is progressing just as I expected," Brady told reporters at a charity event in Boston on Wednesday. "It's just a matter of getting to that time," said Brady, though he wouldn't speculate as to when he'd be back on the field. Still, he believes he'll be ready for the 2009 opener and believes his rehab is on track. "I wish it was right around the corner. I wish it was here now. It's not, but the competitor in me has to sit back and wait and continue to work and try to get stronger." Brady added that there have been no further setbacks since a post-operative infection in the knee last fall. He had surgery Oct. 6 in Los Angeles. He sidestepped questions about his rumored engagement to his girlfriend, supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

"Maybe, maybe not," Brady said. "No, all those reports are, unfortunately, not true. I'm in a great spot in my life. I have a lot of people that care about me and that I love, and love being around. My girlfriend is certainly one of them."
