St Georges Day bowling event raises hundreds for Southport charities

ST GEORGE&rsquoS Day was a knight to remember in Southport, when a charity bowling evening raised hundreds of pounds for local charities.

The event last Thursday was a precursor to this Summer&rsquos Southport&rsquos Charity Fun Fest - a free event hailed as Southport&rsquos &lsquofirst big event of the Summer&rsquo. The bowling night at Premier Bowl raised more than &pound550, and cash will go towards nominated Southport charities: Queenscourt Hospice, Southport St John Ambulance, Southport PHAB Club, Southport RSPCA and Southport Royal British Legion. A myriad of teams came down to compete, with TK Maxx walking away with the title. A number of competitors came down wearing fancy dress - not least Falstaff landlord Adrian Davies, who turned up in full knight&rsquos costume as St George himself! Among those competing against him were members of Southport & Woodvale Round Table - bowling as &lsquoknights of the round table&rsquo. Newly-installed chairman Chris Matthews bowled for St George not in a suit of armour, but smartly attired in a suit of pinstripes. Other teams included: Lang Independent Financial Services Ltd, North Meols Pharmacy, Queenscourt Hospice, Claire McAuley&rsquos All Stars, Cinnamon bar, and Michael David.

Event organiser, Fun Fest vice chairman Andrew Brown, said: &ldquoOnce again it was a fantastic atmosphere, and I&rsquod like to say a huge thank you to the staff at Premier Bowl who made it a great night for everyone. The venue looked superb with all the St George&rsquos flags.
