Relay for Life event packs pizza place

May 1, 2009 Victoria Brock said she could have been eating chicken noodle soup for dinner.

However, the 11-year-old from Waukee had a plate of pizza in front of her. Her favorite is the dessert pizza. Grace Carlson, 6, of West Des Moines enjoyed dessert pizza as an entree. The Brookview Elementary School kindergartner visited with her sisters and parents, who are both teachers in the district. "It's a nice way to support one of our own," said Scott Carlson, who teaches at the high school. "It's nice to come out here." Raigen Johnson, 6, of West Des Moines said it was "really cool" to see her teacher outside of school. She and her sister, Rylee, 8, put $50 in the Relay for Life bucket. Dunn said Pizza Ranch was happy to help the cause, too. "This is a good way to give back," he said. "It's always fun to meet new people." He added he gave a 5-minute crash course to teachers before they cleared tables. But kindergarten teacher Kacey Beyer already had experience. "I worked catering in college," she said. "It's way more fun to bus tables for a good cause than for a job."
