ESCANABA - Community Action Agency's annual event to raise money for residents in need of heating assistance is slated for Saturday morning in downtown

Escanaba. CAA Executive Assistant Cathy Pearson said the charity walk starts at 10 a.m., with registration beginning at 9 a.m. at the Elks Lodge on the 500 block of Ludington Street. All members of the public are encouraged to attend, and any donations will be greatly appreciated. "Youth groups, service organizations and individuals are all welcome to participate," she said. "If groups come, they are more than welcome to carry their banners." Pearson said refreshments and camaraderie will mark the event, and CAA asks that all donations for heat assistance be dropped off that day - the walk will not be rescheduled on account of weather. Donors do not have to walk if they do not wish. "People can come on down and do their good deed," said Pearson, adding there are many other area events going on later in the day. "The need is really great." Pearson stressed that no donation is too small. "CAA officials recognize that most everybody is feeling the pinch in some way, but anything will help," she said. "If somebody donated $10 last year and this year they can do $5 - it adds up. It really does."

Walk for Warmth funds are used for heat assistance only, including natural gas, propane and wood heat sources.
