Hockey event raises 15000 for slain officers memorial fund

TBO.com TAMPA - A charity event involving Tampa Bay Lightning players raised about $15,000 for the memorial fund of slain Tampa police Cpl.

Mike Roberts. As part of the Bolts' annual Fan Fest, Tampa police officers and Lightning players suited up Saturday for a charity scrimmage at the St. Pete Times Forum. Players' jerseys worn on ice were autographed and auctioned for the memorial fund. Fans could also make cash donations at several donation bowls around the arena. The jersey auction alone raised nearly $6,000, team spokesman Bill Wicket said. Martin St. Louis' jersey was the event's top seller, drawing $725. Roberts, who was shot and killed in the line of duty Aug. 19, had played goaltender for the Tampa Police Department's hockey team.
