Giving up or giving back 2009: Growing Roman

Giving up or giving back

Growing up as a Roman Catholic, I always enjoyed the challenge of Lent.

What could I give up that would be a great sacrifice to me, to reflect and show gratitude to the greatest sacrifice ever given I always choose something that seems ever so trivial. I've given up chocolate, pasta, bread, ice cream, even shopping! These all seemed like a great sacrifice to me, but had no impact at all on anyone outside of my world. So I've begun to think, rather than just giving up something that would create a challenge to me, what if I gave back something With , I already volunteer a great deal. But what if I make a personal pledge to make every volunteer event we have, instead of just one or two a month What if I do something else on the side What if I give away 10% of my closet to a women's shelter Okay...let's not be crazy... But perhaps I will. (You know what I totally wrote that as a joke...but I decided that is what I will try to do! This will be a project...). And my hope is to inspire others to do something out of the ordinary as well. No matter what religion you are, taking a period of time to test yourself is very powerful. What limits of yourself can you reach, that you didn't even know were there I think you might be surprised. So here are my personal goals: 1. Give up 10% of my closet. 2. Besides volunteering with Team Charity at all of , I going to find a personal side project. If my dog Griffin passes his therapy dog test Monday, I've found a partner in crime for my side project! 3. I'm going to write in some way or form every day. A bit here, a bit in a journal, a bit of some fiction projects I've started some time ago. This was my original sacrifice. (Not that writing is a sacrifice, I love it. But making the time is quite the challenge.) So there it is, I'm giving something up and giving something back. The challenge is set. Let the 40 days begin!

What will you do
