Ball to help Africa charity

LAST YEAR, Marcia McPherson, director of south London-based Beechcroft Chapel Choir, travelled to Liberia to witness the work of a Christian charity that runs

the African Mercy, a floating hospital which provides free medical care. McPherson was so inspired by the work of Mercy Ships&rsquo more than 400 African Mercy volunteers, she decided to put on an event to raise funds for their cause. Joined by her fellow choir members, Marcia is busy organising a charity ball, scheduled to take place on September 5 at south London&rsquos Battersea Arts Centre.

It will feature a four-course meal, live music, a fashion show, an auction and dancing. Bishop Wayne Malcolm and Diahanne Rhiney are the hosts.
